What are Based Fight Camp events all about?
We host multi-day events in travel destinations with small class sizes to guarantee you the most authentic and valuable experience possible with lots of one-on-one our expert coaches, in the gym and at our social events, which are on the house. These experiences are curated by Rose Athena with an eye for maximizing your training progress, relaxation, and pure enjoyment of the social connections fostered through a dedicated jiu-jitsu practise.
How is the price calculated?
The costs that are considered when we set pricing include our coaches rates, airfare, and accommodations, the cost for transport services which vary by event, the costs for dinners and parties (these also vary by event), and our yearly marketing costs.
What are the accommodations?
In Vancouver, we have partnered with The Delta by Marriott, which is walking distance from Kuzushi.
Optional Upgrade: Book your 3-night hotel stay with us in a premium room at the 4-star Delta hotel mere blocks from the gym and the beach! Breakfast is complimentary at the hotel. (+$1100)
Hotel amenities:
The Delta by Marriott offers us a special discount. Guests are welcome to choose their own accommodations. We recommend that you book your accommodations at that hotel or nearby.
What are the training facilities like?
Kuzushi Grappling is a 1,500 sq ft facility located in the heart of downtown, Vancouver, within a 10 minute drive to the waterfront. The head coach at Kuzushi Grappling is Ben Dyson, a British BJJ black belt under Roy Dean.
Gracie Barra is a 2,300 sq ft second-floor facility with showers and a beautiful sunset view located in the Ejidal district of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, within a 10 minute drive to the beach. The Gracie Barra Playa gym is host to a coaching staff representing decades of competitive jiu jitsu history and professional expertise. The head coach at Gracie Barra is Thomas Fisher, an American hailing from Philadelphia who is fluent in both English and Spanish. Thomas and our driver Malaco will serve as your local guides. If you have any questions about the local customs, best restaurants, exchange rates, etc. Thomas and Malaco are friendly, knowledgeable, and accessible.
What is not included in the price?
You are responsible for your flights and your transportation from the airport to the hotel. Standard taxi fares are listed here. For the higher priced events, we provide transportation for excursions, and the welcome and farewell dinners. We recommend budgeting $50 to $100/day for food and other daily items - though in many cases you will find it will be possible for you to be quite comfortable spending even less!
How much experience do I need?
While the level of instruction will be high given the pedigree of our coaches, newcomers to jiu jitsu are welcome! The curriculum is designed to push you to your physical and mental limits, and our coaches are true professionals who can gauge where that limit is for you personally.
Can I bring my kids or spouse?
Our camps are all-ages! Families are very welcome. We can provide group discounts. Email rose@basedfightcamp.com with the details of your party and she will make sure you can get your whole group together and save. If you’re bringing a friend or a spouse who doesn’t want to train, but you’d like to have them join the group for dinners, parties, and excursions, we can accommodate that too! Add a plus one to your ticket for $295!
Can I get a refund if I need to cancel?
Registration is refundable up to 60 days prior to event start, however some administration fees amounting to 10% of the original charge will be withheld. In the case of a top-down government enforced travel restriction, Based Fight Camp will either apply the payment to a future event, or issue a return, regardless of time frame to event start, withholding only the 10% administration fee. The choice between these two options will be at your discretion.
