Welcome to the Flow State BJJ Camp, an innovative 7-day immersive experience that transcends traditional martial arts training. Nestled in the lush jungles of Tulum, Mexico, this unique retreat combines high-level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction with transformative wellness practices, offering participants a chance to explore BJJ not just as a martial art, but as a vehicle for self-growth and spiritual exploration.
This isn't your typical BJJ camp or wellness retreat. Beyond the mats, you'll discover a deeper connection to your practice through guided meditations, holotropic breathwork, and traditional Mayan healing ceremonies. Set in the exclusive Balam Ha Retreat Center, surrounded by pristine jungle and minutes from the white sandy beaches of the Riviera Maya, participants will find themselves in a sanctuary designed for both intensive training and profound personal development.
Under the guidance of 2nd Degree Black Belt Joe Campisi, you'll elevate your ground game while exploring the integration of various grappling styles. Dr. David Zwoboda, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, brings his expertise in movement science and longevity-focused training, helping you develop a sustainable practice that will serve you for decades to come. Complementing the physical training, Cordi Zwoboda offers her extensive experience in mindfulness practices, breathwork, and yoga, creating a holistic approach to martial arts training.
The retreat goes beyond just training and meditation - you'll explore ancient Mayan ruins, swim in breathtaking cenotes, experience the thrill of the Xelha waterpark, and enjoy magical flow roll sessions under the jungle canopy. With the entire retreat center reserved exclusively for our group, you'll find a safe space to explore your connection with yourself, nature, and the gentle art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Whether you're looking to revolutionize your approach to BJJ, deepen your mind-body connection, or simply train in paradise while exploring Mexican culture, this retreat offers a unique blend of martial arts excellence, wellness practices, and adventure in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable.

Joe Campisi
Joe is a second degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Jamie Cruz. He started training at the legendary AMA Fight Club during its heyday as a UFC fighter factory in the early 2010's. Joe is a black belt in Jiu jitsu, but he’s a true student of martial arts in every sense. His knowledge base is unreal, and he always tries to incorporate all grappling styles into his teaching system. Joe has been teaching Jiu Jitsu for 10 years, and on November 14th 2020, he received his first degree directly from master Renzo Gracie himself.
David Zwoboda
David got his DPT degree from the University of Delaware, which is weirdly enough one of the best PT schools in the world. There, he learned from pioneers in the field of non-operative management of ACL tears, and he firmly believes that the ACL is the most overrated ligament in the body. David plans to train jiu jitsu until he’s in his 90’s and is choking out his great-great grandchildren, so everything he does for his own training is geared around maximizing longevity, and this is the approach he brings to his clients. David sees jiu jitsu as the ultimate vehicle for self-improvement and spiritual growth.
Cordi Zwoboda
While Cordi is new to martial arts, she is no novice when it comes to mindfulness practices. With over 6 years of teaching yoga all over the world while studying and apprenticing with indigenous masters healers of different lineages and cultures, she invites you to rethink everything that you knew about holistic wellness and holds space for you to explore a deeper connection with your inner medicines - like the breath. Cordi offers daily meditation and breathwork sessions with as well as gentle and restorative yoga classes throughout the week to explore your body, mind, and breath in a new way.
What makes this BJJ camp unique?
If you know Campisi, you know that his instruction alone will make this unique. But for real, the idea of this camp is to revolutionize how you approach jiu jitsu, seeing it not just as a martial art but as a vehicle for self-growth and spiritual exploration. With magical flow roll open mats and transformational yoga sessions at night, you’ll be invited to connect with your training partner and your own body on a different level than you’ve likely ever experienced.
You’ll cultivate a radically deeper relationship with your body, mind and soul, all in the framework of training the gentle art. Plus, you’ll learn a lot of dope jiu jitsu and explore cenotes and Mayan ruins and get to chill in literal paradise here in Mexico.

Who are your instructors?
Joe Campisi will be teaching jiu jitsu. In addition to having a killer British accent and top notch dance skills, his jiu jitsu is pretty decent too. David Zwoboda will be providing some mobility classes aimed at promoting longevity within jiu jitsu. He’s a doctor of physical therapy, certified strength and conditioning coach, functional range conditioning certified specialist, and cooks a mean steak. That has nothing to do with anything, but he wanted you to know. Cordi Zwoboda will be your guide for all things spiritual. She’s been studying with indigenous healers and teaching yoga all over the world for more than 6 years. Cordi is here to show you a whole new level of depth in your relationship to yourself, your mind and your breath - her biggest passion is blowing people’s minds at how profound their experience can be when approaching things like yoga and breathwork the right way.
How do I get there?
Traveling to Tulum is easy. We recommend flying into Cancun (CUN) International Airport and there are several nonstop connections per day from tons of airports. Seriously, it’s super easy to get here. From Cancun Airport, it is about a 90min drive to our retreat center Balam Ha (we provide transportation for the group) Alternatively, some locations are now flying in directly to the new Tulum airport - we can help you set up your own transportation if you choose this airport
Tucked away in the lush jungle of the Yucatan, Balam Ha is our jiu jitsu & wellness sanctuary, inviting you to deepen not only your ground game but also the relationship with yourself as you disconnect from the stresses of society and reconnect with nature. The land is so lush, tranquil and secluded that you would never guess it’s just just a few minutes away from some of the most pristine white sandy beaches of the Riviera Maya, and just a short drive away from all the action in Tulum town.
And best of all, we have the entire center to ourselves all week. This is a safe space to explore your connection with yourself, with mother nature, and with the gentle art.
Our Private Jungle Paradise - Balam Ha Retreat Center, Tulum
Balam Ha impresses with beautiful casitas and luxurious rooms, each unique in its own right. We offer some shared accommodations for a more cost-effective option, or luxurious private residences for couples seeking a private getaway or weird smelly people with no friends.
