Jozef Chen is a rising star in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling. Born on July 30, 2004, in Taipei, Taiwan, Chen's multicultural background—with a South African/German mother and a Taiwanese father—has contributed to his unique perspective in the sport.
Chen's journey in martial arts began at the age of 13, initially inspired by the UFC. He started with Muay Thai in Nanjing, China, before discovering his passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at 14. Under the guidance of Guillaume Leclerc, Chen quickly progressed through the ranks, demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication.
Despite his relatively short time in the sport, Chen has achieved remarkable success. He earned a bronze medal at the ADCC Asia & Oceania Trials in 2022 with just four years of training, and followed this with a gold medal performance at the ADCC European Trials in 2023. These achievements, along with victories at the IBJJF Asian Championship and IBJJF Pan Championship NOGI, have established Chen as one of the most promising grapplers of his generation.
Chen's grappling style is noted for its well-roundedness, with a particular strength in chest-to-chest passing. He has trained extensively with the B-Team, receiving his brown belt from Craig Jones in 2023. Chen has also worked closely with coach Dima Murovanni in Berlin, Germany, further refining his skills.
