Pedro Sauer
Pedro Sauer is a highly respected figure in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), holding an 8th Degree Red/Black Belt under Rickson Gracie. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sauer began his martial arts journey at age five, initially training in boxing, judo, and taekwondo before discovering BJJ at fifteen through his friend Rickson Gracie1.
Sauer earned his black belt in 1985 from Helio and Rickson Gracie, and received a special "Tecnico de Jiu-Jitsu" certificate from Helio Gracie in 1986, recognizing his superior technical mastery. He moved to the United States in 1990, becoming one of the pioneering BJJ instructors in the country.
As the founder of the Pedro Sauer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association, he has trained numerous high-level practitioners and has over 150 affiliated schools worldwide1. Sauer is renowned for his teaching philosophy, which emphasizes fundamental principles and technical efficiency. He has also worked extensively with military and law enforcement agencies, including Navy SEAL teams, FBI, and CIA agents.
Currently based in Herndon, Virginia, Pedro Sauer continues to teach at One Spirit Martial Arts and is highly sought after for seminars and instruction across the globe
