Ray Griffin is a 3rd Degree Gracie Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under 8th Degree Red/Black Master Pedro Sauer. He began his training in 1999 in Orem, Utah, under Master Sauer's guidance. In 2014, he earned his Black Belt from Master Sauer.
Beyond his Jiu Jitsu expertise, Ray serves as a Level III Combatives instructor in the U.S. Army and is an assistant instructor for the Sheepdog Response Protector I course. He is also a certified Defensive Tactics Instructor with the Sauer Tactical Group, specializing in tailored programs for military and law enforcement personnel.
In 2022, Ray realized a long-time dream by opening the Griffin Jiu Jitsu Academy, a stand-alone Gracie Jiu Jitsu school offering classes for kids, youth, adults, and law enforcement. The academy upholds the tradition of leverage, technique, and the solid principles of Gracie Jiu Jitsu as taught to Master Pedro Sauer by Grandmaster Helio Gracie and Master Rickson Gracie.
Ray is also a firearms instructor with NRA certifications for pistol, rifle, shotgun, and range safety. Through Griffin Jiu Jitsu Academy and his training group, Griffin Tactical, he provides instruction in self-defense, situational awareness, firearms handling, and basic survival skills. His dedication to empowering individuals, especially women and youth, is evident through his development of self-defense programs tailored to realtors, teachers, and women in the workplace. With a large family, including seven daughters, Ray is passionate about equipping women with the skills and confidence to protect themselves. Ray Griffin's multifaceted expertise and commitment to teaching make him a respected figure in the martial arts and self-defense communities.
