At 17, Matuda transitioned to Muay Thai, inspired by her brother who was a Thai boxer. Her striking journey included training under Anderson Silva, who was one of her early Muay Thai instructors. However, it was in 2004 that Matuda discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a discipline that would define her athletic career.
Matuda's BJJ journey began under Carlos 'Penão' Alexandre Conceição, a black belt under Carlson Gracie. She quickly took to the sport, competing within her first month of training. In 2009, as a blue belt, Matuda won both the CBJJF South American Cup and the CBJJE World Cup, signaling her potential in the sport. That same year, she moved to the United States with her husband, Katel Kubis, an American Top Team (ATT) pro-team Muay Thai coach.
In the U.S., Matuda began training under Ricardo Libório at American Top Team. Her progress was rapid and impressive. As a purple belt, she won the IBJJF Pan American and the 2010 IBJJF World Championship. She continued her success at brown belt, winning the Pan American Championship in 2011 and the World Championship in 2012.
Libório promoted Matuda to black belt in July 2012, following her World Championship victory. Her success continued at the black belt level, with World Championship titles in 2013, 2014, and 2016. She also claimed Pan American Championship titles in 2015, 2016, and 2018, and the European Open Championship in 2017.
Matuda's competitive achievements extend beyond IBJJF tournaments. In 2015, she competed at Polaris 2 Pro Grappling in Cardiff, Wales, where she submitted Michelle Nicolini with a flying armbar in just 15 seconds, a moment that highlighted her dynamic and aggressive style.
Throughout her career, Matuda has consistently placed at the highest levels of competition. She has multiple silver and bronze medals from the IBJJF World Championships, cementing her status as one of the top competitors in her weight class.
